If you’re looking for Gaelic football in Alghero<\/strong>, there is one place we’d recommend heading first – Bar La Playa<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Finding somewhere showing Premier League or Champions League football in Alghero is usually fairly easy. Finding a bar showing Gaelic football and GAA is another matter altogether.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, Bar La Playa regularly shows Gaelic football and is probably the best – and possibly only – place in Alghero where you can reliably catch the big games. Add a great atmosphere, a location right beside the beach and Guinness on tap<\/strong>, and it’s a pretty good option for Irish sports fans visiting Sardinia.<\/p>\n

What is Gaelic football?<\/h2>\n

If you’re travelling with somebody who has never seen a match before, Gaelic football can initially look like a mixture of football, rugby and basketball – although it is very much a sport in its own right.<\/p>\n

Gaelic football is one of Ireland’s traditional Gaelic games and is played between two teams of 15 players on a large grass pitch.<\/p>\n

Players can kick the ball, catch it and carry it in their hands. When running with the ball, players must regularly bounce it or perform a “solo”, dropping the ball onto the foot and kicking it back into the hands.<\/p>\n
