Costruita a met\u00e0 del XV secolo entro i confini della citt\u00e0 murata, l'attuale Piazza Civica era originariamente di propriet\u00e0 della famiglia De Ferrera, ricchi mercanti catalani. Comunemente chiamata Casa d'Albis e Palazzo d'Arcayne, dal nome dei suoi successivi proprietari, era la residenza ufficiale del governatore militare della citt\u00e0. Tuttavia, \u00e8 noto soprattutto per aver ospitato l'imperatore Carlo V durante la sua visita di due giorni ad Alghero nell'ottobre 1541, nell'ambito della spedizione contro Algeri.<\/p>\n
L'edificio, progettato in stile architettonico gotico, presenta tre livelli contraddistinti da fasce marcapiano, con il secondo e l'ultimo coronamento ancora oggi visibili.
