Casa De Ferrera – Palazzo d’ Albìs

Casa De Ferrera – Palazzo d’ Albìs, Piazza Civica, Alghero, Province of Sassari, Italy

Constructed in the mid-15th century within the confines of the historic walled city, the present-day Piazza Civica was originally owned by the De Ferrera family, affluent Catalan merchants. Commonly referred to as the Casa d’Albis and Palazzo d’Arcayne, after its later proprietors, it served as the official residence of the city’s military governor. However, it is most renowned for hosting Emperor Charles V during his two-day visit to Alghero in October 1541, which was part of his expedition against Algiers.

The building, designed in the Gothic architectural style, features three levels distinguished by string courses, with the second and topmost crowning courses still visible today. In 1960, this historic structure was transformed into a condominium.
